Skaug is a songwriter, musician, and one of Norway's best-selling poets. His texts are shared widely. The poetry collections "Følg med nå" (2019) and "Ikke slipp" (2020) alone have been printed in over 42,000 copies. Later collections, such as "Hjemmekamp" (2020), "Opprykk" (2021), and "Dikt til navngitte menn" (2022), have also been remarkably successful. In an interview with VG, Trygve Skaug himself says about the success: "That people find comfort in my words comforts me as well. My texts are written very nakedly, honestly, and unpretentiously. Therefore, it hits me hard when I can be there for others."
He was the vocalist in the band St Morritz since its inception in 2006, but in 2012 he went solo. After this, he has released four solo albums, and in 2017 the beloved poet and artist was nominated for the Spellemann Award for the album "Sanger du skal få når jeg dør." In the spring of 2021, he participated in TV2's popular program Hver gang vi møtes. Later that same year, he was awarded the Bjørg Vik Prize for "... the ability to reach out, touch, and provide literary experiences for many with his poems. By using new communication channels such as Instagram and other social media, the prize winner has gotten new generations to read poetry."
